What data does e4YOU collect about you and how or where do we obtain it?
The information we have about you includes data relating to who you are and how you use e4YOU services, and we obtain it mainly directly from you and only if you voluntarily choose to provide it.
We remind you that the personal information you provide directly to us must always be real, truthful and up to date. We will make the necessary tools available to you so that you can update or rectify this data.
We may also obtain data about you through public or private institutions with which we have a legal agreement under which you have expressly consented to us having your data.
Likewise, we may also obtain statistical data about our courses or programs, or other products or services offered, through interview processes or questionnaires that we conduct using different applications, such as SurveyMonkey, Mailchimp or similar, among others. Responding to these types of questionnaires is and will always be optional, but your opinion will help us continue improving e4YOU constantly.
Finally, there may be information about you that Paypal provides to us so that we can properly manage payment services and respond appropriately in the event of an issue with the purchase of these services. And if the course is not paid for with Paypal, we will also have the data you provide from the account from which you make the payment.
Specifically, e4YOU collects information directly when you:
- Register for an e4YOU user account and create an e4YOU user profile.

e4YOU does not collect or store financial account numbers or identification issued by a government entity, employer or other authority. Instead, if you choose to make a purchase on the e4YOU Portal, for example, a Certificate of Completion, you will be directed to e4YOU's external payment processor and e4YOU's external identity verification service provider. If you do not wish to submit the required authentication or payment information, you will not be able to obtain a certificate through the e4YOU Portal.
e4YOU requires your personal information only in limited cases when you:
- Create an e4YOU user account (username, email address, first name and last name or surnames).

To the extent that e4YOU links information that e4YOU collects directly or indirectly to a person (for example, you), that link will be associated with your Personal Information in that person's account profile (for example, with your profile).
You may voluntarily choose to share additional Personal Information on the e4YOU Portal, for example:
- In your e4YOU account profile (where you can display a limited or full profile to other users of the e4YOU Portal).
- When applying for financial assistance.
- When participating in a course, forum, webinar or other interactive experience on the e4YOU Portal (bearing in mind that, in some cases, this information is shared with a third party that provides tools or other support for the e4YOU Portal or a course).

Associates, Collaborators and/or “Partners” do not receive your Personal Information unless you enroll in one of their courses or a course offered by them. If you enroll in a course, the Associate, Collaborator and/or “Partner” offering the course will receive Personal Information from your e4YOU account profile plus the information e4YOU collects about your activity and performance in the course in which you enrolled.
Therefore, overall, the information we have about you includes data relating to who you are and how you use e4YOU services. Specifically:
- Basic information about who you are: first name, last name or surnames, email address.
- In addition, voluntarily, you may complete your profile by including: city, country, profile photo or image, biography, institution, among other optional information, which you may make visible or invisible to other users as you decide.
- Likewise, if you purchase a Certificate of Completion (so that e4YOU's external provider can authenticate your identity) or another paid product or service (so that e4YOU's external provider can process your payment), we will ask you for your address and identification document, as well as any other data necessary for issuing the corresponding invoice and/or diploma. If the course is not paid for with Paypal, we will also have the data you provide from the account from which you make the payment.
- Finally, information about how you use e4YOU services: Courses or topics of interest, when and where you use e4YOU, which devices and/or operating system you use, the network from which you connect, or whether you have not accessed e4YOU for a long time.
What do we use your data for and why?
We use your data to provide you with the best possible service through e4YOU and to offer you training opportunities suited to your own interests. We also use it for other legitimate purposes such as communicating with you, understanding how you use e4YOU or even complying with certain legal obligations that apply to us.
Specifically, we process your data for the following purposes:
- So that you can enjoy e4YOU and all its features (service offered). This purpose includes the continuous improvement of the features offered or personalization of the e4YOU Portal through the application of new technologies such as Artificial Intelligence or Blockchain, among others, accepted by e4YOU and its Associates, Collaborators and “Partners”, in order to improve the learning experience of its users and seek to adapt it to their personal interests and needs.
- To support scientific research and innovation, seeking to fulfill the objective of offering an education platform open to everyone, where research on the application of disruptive technologies such as Blockchain, in combination with others such as Artificial Intelligence, can be tested, promoted and developed, providing solutions to the major challenges of education today and in the future. This objective is described for further information for all users in our manifesto on who are we?.
- To communicate and stay in contact with you in order to inform you about our products and services through various channels such as, for example, email, SMS or the e4YOU app itself. To be transparent with you, our intention is that you download and register with e4YOU (if you have not already done so), and that you are satisfied with e4YOU services, know about them and actively use them.
- To understand how you use e4YOU products and services in order to:
- Detect trends and correlations in order to understand and predict, in aggregate, the use of these services and your needs as a user.
- Make better business decisions, such as improving e4YOU products and services and your experience, or making communication activities more useful for you and for all our current and future users.
- Prepare reports with aggregated data on trends in the number of active users or how certain features are used.
- Check whether you have performed a specific action through e4YOU.
- Monitor compliance with our service quality levels (for example, to debug and detect errors).
- Prevent and detect fraudulent, malicious or illegal activities (especially where this may affect other users).
- Conduct surveys in order to ask for and understand your opinion about e4YOU or its services and features.
- Exercise, enforce and comply with legal rights and obligations: this includes responding to subpoenas, court orders or other legal processes; and investigating, preventing or taking action regarding illegal activities, suspected fraud, security or technical issues, or protecting the rights, property or security of e4YOU, its Associates, Collaborators and/or “Partners”, or others, as required by applicable law. In particular, this includes:
- Cooperating with and responding to orders or requests from authorities.
- Reporting or bringing fraudulent, malicious or allegedly illegal actions to the attention of the authorities.
- Defending ourselves against lawsuits, complaints and/or claims of any kind.
- Ensure the physical, network and information technology security that we use to provide you with our services and products.
- If the certificate or course has a price and is not paid for with Paypal, we will verify that the payment shown in the information contained in the digital or physical document or file you have attached matches the deposit received, which must equal the exact price of the certificate or course.
We use your personal data for the above purposes on the basis of the following (legal grounds):
- Performance of the contract. We need it in order to provide you with the service, allowing you to enjoy e4YOU and its features. In addition, when you make a payment, we need to verify that it corresponds to the price of the certificate or course.
- Legal obligations. We need it to comply with certain legal and regulatory obligations and to respond to requests from authorities.
- Legitimate interest. Some of the purposes are necessary for e4YOU's legitimate business interests, although you may always object to them (for example, communicating and staying in contact with you to inform you about our products and services).
- Consent. Because you have given us permission to process your data for certain purposes (for example, permissions you grant during registration so that we can access information from your terminal or electronic device).
How long do we keep your data?
Specifically, with regard to your profile data and related personal data, until you manage your cancellation from our services. If you have purchased any of our certificates or courses, five years for the personal data and billing data related to that purchase. There are certain reasons that legally allow us to retain your data, although we will only retain and process it while necessary for the purposes indicated in the section entitled “What do we use your data for and why?” of this policy. The specific retention period will depend on the type of data and what it is used for and why.
As a general rule, we will stop retaining your personal data from the moment it is no longer necessary to continue providing you with the e4YOU service. However, there are some exceptions to this general rule, which we explain below.
Specifically, there are some purposes that persist and continue even after cancellation from e4YOU. Thus, we need to continue retaining some data about you and about how you used e4YOU in order to:
- Maintain a history of how you used e4YOU.
- Comply with certain legal data retention obligations applicable to e4YOU.
- Cooperate with authorities and respond to their requests for information.
- Defend ourselves against lawsuits, complaints and/or claims.
- Prevent fraud, abuse or unlawful actions.
- Prove and verify that you had a user account on e4YOU.
However, during this additional period of time we will apply a range of actions, measures and safeguards to ensure the protection of your information and privacy. These actions may include, for example, functional separation, pseudonymization and/or encryption of your data and information. Likewise, we will take all reasonable measures to ensure that your data is rectified or erased when inaccurate.
Who has access to your data (in addition to BISITE-USAL)?
In addition to BISITE-USAL, our suppliers, associates, collaborators and “partners” may have access to your personal data, as well as, where applicable, the authorities with which we cooperate and interact. The access to your data that we provide to these third parties is always for lawful purposes and only for the strictly necessary period of time.
We need to share your data with specific third-party suppliers, collaborators, associates and/or “partners”, as indicated below, always in relation to the specific purposes for which we process your data, described in the section entitled “What do we use your data for and why?”, and only for the strictly necessary period of time.
Specifically, this involves giving access to your data to:
- The collaborators, associates and/or “partners” that have uploaded courses to the e4YOU Campus or Campus, campus.e4you.org, and their speakers (teaching staff). They will only be able to access the data of users who have enrolled in their courses, within the scope of the Campus. In relation to this access, application, processing and use of user data, the collaborators, associates and/or “partners” that have uploaded courses to the Campus and their speakers (teaching staff) may access all personal data that users enrolled in the courses register on the Campus. Consequently, they may access first and last name or surnames and email data; and, if provided, also location (city, country), profile photo or image, biography and institution. The purpose of this access is to allow the speakers (teaching staff) to properly manage and deliver the course in which the user is enrolled.
- Our suppliers, as well as the companies they subcontract, who help us provide you with e4YOU services, communicate and stay in contact with you, conduct surveys and understand how you use e4YOU. Some of these suppliers may process your data from the United States and, in such cases and to the extent that this involves a transfer of your data to that country, their services, infrastructure, systems and/or tools will always be contracted by BISITE-USAL subject to the highest and most appropriate safeguards applicable in each case and in accordance with European regulations.
- Authorities (for example, national and/or international law enforcement agencies or judicial bodies) that legally require access to your information, as well as, where applicable, any other authorities with which we need to share your information in order to defend ourselves against possible lawsuits, complaints and/or claims of any kind, as well as to bring fraudulent, malicious or allegedly illegal actions to their attention.
In any case, BISITE-USAL always guarantees the highest level of protection regarding the access these third parties have to your data and information, for example, by entering into data processing agreements with them or by establishing appropriate safeguards to ensure the confidentiality and secure processing of your data.
What are your rights and how can you control your data?
The regulations grant you a number of rights in relation to the data and information we process about you. Specifically, the rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction, objection, portability, as well as the right not to be subject to automated decisions and to withdraw your consent at any time. Some of these rights may be exercised directly through the e4YOU website, while for others you will need to write to us at: campus@e4you.org or, failing that, at campus@e4you.org.
You may exercise the following data protection rights against BISITE-USAL:
- Right of access: the right to request details of the data we hold about you and how we process it, as well as to obtain a copy of it.
- Right to rectification: the right to obtain rectification of inaccurate or incorrect data about you, as well as to complete any data that is incomplete.
- Right to erasure: the right to request the deletion or erasure of your data and information in certain circumstances. However, please note that there are certain occasions when BISITE-USAL is legally entitled to continue retaining and processing your data (for example, to comply with a legal data retention obligation).
- Right to restriction: the right to restrict or limit the processing of your data in certain circumstances (for example, if erasure of data applies but, instead of deleting it, you prefer us to block it and process it only for the purpose of retaining it because you will need it later to file a claim). Again, please note that there may be occasions when BISITE-USAL is legally entitled to reject your request for restriction.
- Right to object: the right to object to BISITE-USAL processing your data for a specific purpose, in certain circumstances provided for by regulations and related to your personal situation. In some cases, we provide simple options for objecting directly through the app (for example, objecting to receiving commercial communications sent by BISITE-USAL), while in other cases you will need to contact us by email so that we can assess your request in detail.
- Right to data portability: the right to receive your data in a commonly used format that allows you to transfer it to another institution, entity or company, as well as, where applicable, to request that BISITE-USAL transmit it directly to that other institution, entity or company where technically feasible.
- Right not to be subject to automated decisions: the right to object to being subject to a decision based solely on automated data processing (without human intervention), including profiling, that produces legal effects concerning you or significantly affects you.
- Right to withdraw consent at any time: the right to withdraw your consent at any time to the processing of your data for a specific purpose when such processing is based on that legal basis.
You can consult the full scope and details of these rights on the website of the Spanish Data Protection Agency (AEPD).
As a general rule, you may exercise all these rights (at any time and free of charge) by writing to campus@e4you.org or tocampus@e4you.org.
For this purpose, it is important to bear in mind that:
- When exercising a right that cannot be processed directly through the Campus, you must provide a copy of your official identity document (for example, DNI, NIE or Passport) and, whenever possible, send your request from the same email address you used to register with e4YOU.
- If you decide to exercise any of these rights through a representative, you will need to provide documentation proving such status with the request (for example, in the case of a voluntary representative, you may provide a power of attorney containing powers that allow the exercise of such rights on your behalf).
- Requests to exercise rights must be as specific and detailed as possible, indicating the specific right you wish to exercise.
- You may exercise your right to object to receiving commercial communications through several channels: for example, you can manage receipt of e4YOU's email distribution list (such as a “newsletter”, “mailing” or “mailing list”), as well as any other type of commercial communication, by exercising that right through any channel, with respect to communications from e4YOU, simply by sending us an email at campus@e4you.org.
Finally, remember that you also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Data Protection Supervisory Authority, the Spanish Data Protection Agency, especially if you believe that e4YOU has not properly satisfied the exercise of your data protection rights.
How do we protect your data?
BISITE-USAL guarantees the security, secrecy and confidentiality of your data, communications and personal information by adopting the most stringent and robust security measures and making available to you tools and features that allow you to control access to your e4YOU account.
BISITE-USAL is committed to guaranteeing the security, secrecy and confidentiality of your data, communications and personal information. Therefore, as part of our commitment and in compliance with current legislation, we have adopted the most stringent and robust security measures and technical means to prevent their loss, misuse or unauthorized access.
In addition, we undertake to act quickly and responsibly if the security of your data may be at risk, and to inform you where relevant.
What should you bear in mind when using e4YOU?
When using the e4YOU Portal, you should bear in mind certain aspects relating to the minimum age for using e4YOU services, the quality of the data you provide to us, and the cancellation of your user account.
In particular, we recommend that you pay close attention to the following aspects when registering with and using e4YOU:
- Minimum age for use: in order to register with and use e4YOU, you must be over 14 years old. Therefore, by registering with e4YOU, you guarantee to BISITE-USAL that you are over that age. We may contact you at any time to verify whether you meet this condition.
- Quality of the data you provide to us: your personal data, mobile phone number and all information about yourself that you provide to us must always be real, truthful and up to date. We provide you with the necessary tools and options to control and update your personal information (for example, through the “Edit Profile” option in your personal area, user account or profile, or by writing to us at campus@e4you.org).
- Cancellation of your user account: in general, there may be two situations in which your user account is technically deactivated:
- you manage the cancellation through the Campus or voluntarily ask us to cancel your e4YOU user account as explained in the section entitled “What are your rights and how can you control your data?” of this policy, or
- BISITE-USAL technically deactivates your user account (for example, in cases where we detect that you have breached the terms of use of the service). In the event of cancellation, you will lose the information and data you may have in e4YOU, as well as the right to access, obtain or use any products or services that may be active on the cancellation date and/or that you may have previously contracted as an e4YOU user.
- When using our services, you may occasionally visit third-party websites or platforms whose privacy and cookie policies are independent of BISITE-USAL. When accessing these other websites, you will always be aware that you are leaving the e4YOU Portal and will have to decide whether to accept their corresponding third-party privacy and cookie policies.
COOKIES AND TRACKING TECHNOLOGIES ON THE e4YOU PORTAL
Like many Internet services, e4YOU uses cookies and other common tracking technologies on the e4YOU Portal and in its email communications in order to better understand the usefulness they provide to you and the needs met by the products and services offered to you on the e4YOU Portal, both current and future, related to e4YOU, and how e4YOU and its Associates, Collaborators and/or “Partners” can improve their provision in order to satisfy you as effectively as possible. For example:
- depending on your cookie settings, e4YOU tracks information indicating, among other things, which pages of the e4YOU Portal were visited, the order in which they were visited, when they were visited and which hyperlinks and other user interface controls were used;
- e4YOU may record the IP address, operating system and browser software (including mobile or cell phone use and device type when you use e4YOU native mobile applications) used by each user of the e4YOU Portal, and/or information that e4YOU may determine from a user's Internet Service Provider IP address and the geographic location of their connectivity point; and
- e4YOU may track and collect information from emails that e4YOU sends you, for example, whether you opened the email or clicked a link in the email.
e4YOU also partners with third parties to help us track and understand your activity on the e4YOU Portal, how you interact with e4YOU's social networks and how you find or may be referred to the e4YOU Portal. Each Associate, Collaborator and/or “Partner” may separately use tracking technologies within their courses and email communications to understand your activity within a course, and how you find or may be referred to a course on the e4YOU Portal.
e4YOU and the Associates, Collaborators and/or “Partners” use cookies and other tracking technologies for the following purposes:
- where necessary for system administration, security and integrity in order to ensure that the e4YOU Portal functions properly for you. Without these technologies, the e4YOU Portal cannot function properly;
- to enable analytics, performance and functionality, to help e4YOU and the Associates, Collaborators and/or “Partners” collect information about how visitors use the e4YOU Portal and monitor the performance of the e4YOU Portal and improve your experience by recognizing and remembering whether you have previously visited the e4YOU Portal and may have personal preferences; and
- to support marketing activities by enabling e4YOU and the Associates, Collaborators and/or “Partners” to deliver content relevant to your interests on the e4YOU Portal and external sites based on how you interact with advertisements or content from e4YOU or the Associates, Collaborators and/or “Partners”. e4YOU and the Associates, Collaborators and/or “Partners” use “first-party” cookies, meaning cookies served by e4YOU or an individual Member, as well as “third-party” cookies, meaning cookies managed by third parties that help e4YOU and the Associates, Collaborators and/or “Partners” track this information.
It is important to remember that you have some options for managing cookies and other tracking technologies. These include, among other possibilities:
- Modify your browser settings: you should be able to control how and whether your web browser accepts cookies by adjusting its privacy and security settings. The “help” function in the menu bar of most browsers will tell you how to stop accepting new cookies, how to receive notifications of new cookies and how to disable existing cookies. If you reject e4YOU cookies, many features and benefits of the e4YOU Portal may not function properly.
- Opting out of tracking and advertising by specific third-party providers, Associates, Collaborators and/or “Partners” of e4YOU: some of the providers used by e4YOU or any of its Associates, Collaborators and/or “Partners” offer you the option, for cookies and tracking technologies, to opt out of their tracking by following the processes described on their websites. A list of such third parties is maintained and available in the e4YOU Student Help Center and includes, for example, links to applicable opt-out processes. Neither e4YOU nor any Member is responsible for the effectiveness of third-party opt-out options.
